So begins this story for the very youngest about the death of a pet. His father and mother comfort him and he prepares his beloved pet for burial. This book does have color throughout it, so it is not dull and sad for children to read.

The little boy’s dad tells the little boy that Mousie died and tries to comfort his son. I boodbye books that don’t talk about heaven, so that was a plus.

With the help of his parents, the youngster places his pet in a shoebox, tucks an old T-shirt around him, and then carefully chooses several special items to keep him company. I like the way in which the boy says goodbye, other children will be able to relate to him and maybe even say goodbye like this too.
