The W is a good example and has been designed to deliver big screen, Full HD entertainment with plenty of useful features and a pair of 3D glasses thrown in for good measure. Overall it was an impressive performance for a budget projector.

As we’d expect from a DLP projector, the motion handling was great and the 3D images were completely free of crosstalk. The provided remote control is a small white affair but it’s comfortable to hold and easy to use.
BenQ have been quietly producing a range of budget DLP projectors that can deliver genuinely impressive levels of performance, especially when you consider their price. Whilst the out-of-the-box measurements could have been better, the W was very accurate after calibration.
However choosing any of the other presets resulted in an image with far too much blue in it, so Warm gets us closest to D The W is a fairly compact projector, and light enough to be moved around.

In fact all the colours were close to their targets aside from some minor hue errors in green and magenta and overall this is an excellent colour performance. The W was capable of some very impressive images, with natural colours, good motion and plenty of detail. All the connections are at the rear, with the two HDMI inputs on the left hand side, above the three-pin socket for the power cable. The D1400 was also good in the tests using high definition content and with the player set to i it correctly deinterlaced and displayed both the video and film resolution tests and showed good scaling and filtering performance, as well as good resolution enhancement.
E1400 and Connections BenQ tend to use one of two basic chassis designs for their projectors and the W utilises the more rectangular one which, thanks to economies 1w400 scale, is actually quite well assembled. There are controls for the menu, volume and keystone correction placed on top of the unit.

BenQ W Projector The overall look is rather attractive and the build quality is robust, although the large air vents do result in some light spill, which will be more apparent in a very dark room. BenQ W Video Review. The combination of the fans and colour wheel could also get quite noisy, especially in Normal lamp, and there was some obvious light spill from the chassis.
The black levels could have been better and shadow detail has never been a strong point of DLP technology, but overall the W produced a very pleasing image. The picture could be a touch brighter, but it retains its exuberant performance. Sunlit scenes are bright without looking overly warm, blues and reds are richly hued and greens trees are perhaps a little too intense.
The graph above right shows the colour performance which was reasonable but clearly being affected by the errors in the greyscale.
But the picture never strays into overblown territory.
